Entrance sketching is not the same as Instagram illustration. Examiners need to understand your idea quickly. That means readable structure first, style second.
Train the Fundamentals on Rotation
- Line confidence: long strokes, ellipses, controlled hatching
- Proportion: boxes, cylinders and simple products
- Perspective: one-point and two-point spaces
- People: simplified figures that support a scene

- 10 minutes warm-up lines and ellipses
- 15 minutes object or room study
- 15 minutes timed idea sketch from a prompt
Speed tip
If a drawing is pretty but unfinished, it scores worse than a complete, clearer solution. Practice endings.
Feedback That Actually Helps
After each timed sheet, mark three things only: what is unclear, what is disproportionate, and what slowed you down. Fix those three next time. Endless new references without review create the illusion of progress.
Your sketchbook should look like a gym log — messy reps included — not a highlight reel.
When to Add Rendering
Add light, material and colour only after construction is stable. Many students reverse this order and plateau.
